On February 19, 2013, Perry School Community Services Center, Inc. will pay tribute to Mr. Paul McElligott – the spirit of the Perry Center and long-time Executive Director
A lawyer by background, Paul has worked on behalf of the residents of the North Capitol Corridor/Northwest One community for more than 30 years. As Executive Director of North Capitol Neighborhood Development, he played an integral role in the renovation of the historic Perry School into the now Perry School Community Services Center. Paul served as Executive Director of Perry Center, Inc. from December 1997 to October 2012.
The Legacy Tribute takes place on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the historic Howard Theatre located at T and 7th Streets NW in the heart of D.C.’s Shaw neighborhood.
Howard Theatre played host to many of the great African American musical and theatrical artists of the early and mid-twentieth century. Called the “Theatre for The People”, the Howard Theatre transformed from vaudeville house to jazz palace to go-go club, until the 1968 riots in D.C. tore the neighborhoods apart.
Unable to ever fully recover, the Theatre closed its doors for the last time in 1980. In 2006, Howard Theatre Restoration was formed to raise funds for restoration and construction.
The theatre reopened April 9, 2012 and has since brought in headliners ranging from Chaka Kahn to Boys II Men.
