It was October when The JBG Cos. was issued a permit to raze the old Mirrors nightclub, then November, another permit to build the foundation, and then February, another permit to install a tower crane. It’s all led to this, a permit to actually build the 14-story, 190-room Hyatt Place hotel at 33 New York Ave. NE.
The Chevy Chase developer acquired the site Sept. 17 for $5 million, including it as part of its massive Capitol Square project in NoMa, featuring some 2 million square feet of office, retail, residential and hotel space. Next up for Capitol Square, my colleague Dan Sernovitz reported last year, likely will be a 350-unit residential tower, though work there cannot start until at least November when a tenant with private offices on the site is moved out.
