In permits, progress on first two D.C. Wal-Mart stores

Wal-Mart is coming to D.C., whether you like it or not. Two stores are scheduled to open this year and, based on newly issued permits, both are making good progress.

Furthest along appears to be the store at 99 H St. NW, part of the mixed-use project titled 77H and developed by The JBG Cos. as 801 New Jersey Phase I LLC.

The confused addresses aside, permits were issued Tuesday to fit out the urban format Wal-Mart in the newly constructed shell building. The 83,726-square-foot store will sit on the second floor, with apartments above and smaller retail below. The store is scheduled to open at the end of the year.
