DPW To Observe Veteran’s Day, Mon., Nov. 11

Monday’s trash/recycling collections “slide” to Tues., Nov. 13.

Leaves will be collected as scheduled.

The Department of Public Works announced today how services will be affected in observance of Veterans Day, Monday, November 11.

Trash and Recycling Collections: No trash or recycling will be collected on Veterans Day. These collections will “slide” to the next day for the remainder of the week.  For example, Monday’s trash and recycling collections will be made on Tuesday and Tuesday’s collections will be made on Wednesday and so on in once-a-week collection neighborhoods.  In neighborhoods with twice-weekly trash collections, Monday and Thursday collections will be made Tuesday and Friday. Collections normally made on Tuesday and Friday, will be made Wednesday and Saturday.  Trash and recycling containers should be placed out for collection no earlier than 6:30 pm the night before collection and removed from public space by 8 pm on the day(s) of collection.

Parking Enforcement: DPW will not enforce parking meter, residential parking and rush hour lane violations.  DPW also will not tow abandoned vehicles.  Parking enforcement will resume Tuesday, November 12.

Ft. Totten:  The Ft. Totten Transfer Station, located at 4900 John F. McCormack Drive, NE, will be closed Monday, November 11.  It will reopen Tuesday at 1 pm for residents to bring bulk trash.  The next Saturday Household Hazardous Waste/E-cycling/Document Shredding drop-off day is December 7, 8 am to 3 pm.

Directions to Ft. Totten Transfer Station, 4900 John F. McCormack Drive, NE:  Travel east on Irving Street, NW, turn left on Michigan Avenue, turn left on John F. McCormack Drive, NE and continue to the end of the street.  Directions from additional locations can be found at http://dpw.dc.gov/node/414922.

Leaf Collections:  Between Monday, November 4 and Saturday, November 16 (including Veterans Day), DPW will collect leaves from “Area A” neighborhoods as designated in the leaf collection brochure mailed to households that receive DPW trash/recycling collections.  Residents can use DPW’s Web site – www.dpw.dc.gov – to view the 2013-2014 leaf collection schedule by selecting Leaf Collection and clicking on “Check Leaf Collection Status in Your Neighborhood” (http://leaf.dcgis.dc.gov/) and enter their address.
