MPD Announces Arrests in Recent Robberies

(Washington, DC)- Due to community concerns regarding robberies, the Metropolitan Police Department is releasing information on recent robbery arrests. Members of the public have been helpful in providing information that has led to arrests and MPD encourages members of the public to visit our YouTube page, view videos of cases, and contact police if they recognize persons of interest at http://www.youtube.com/OfficialDCPolice

Listed below are recent robbery arrests made within the last week.

Fifth District

Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at approximately 4:00 pm, a complainant reports that while working at the 4th Street Cleaners, located in the 1700 block of 4th Street, NW, a male suspect entered the location and displayed a handgun and announced a robbery. The suspect obtained US currency and fled. On Friday, January 31, 2014, an adult male was arrested for Robbery while Armed(Gun).

Sixth District

· Sunday, January 26, 2014, at approximately 2:30 pm, a complainant reports that while he was in the 4500 block of Benning Road, SE, he was approached by four male suspects who assaulted him, took his property, and fled. Four juvenile males were arrested for Robbery (Force and Violence).

· Thursday, January 30, 2014 at approximately 8:10 pm, a complainant reports that while he was in the 4200 block of Edson Place, SE, he was approached by two male suspects. One of the suspects displayed a handgun and began to pat down the complainant. No property was obtained. Two adult males were arrested for Assault with Intent to Rob while Armed (Gun).

Seventh District

Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at approximately 8:10 pm, a complainant reports that while he was in the 200 block of Malcolm X Avenue, SE, he was approached by two male suspects who announced a robbery and threatened him. Taken was US currency. Arrested was a juvenile male for Robbery while Armed (Gun). An additional juvenile male is still being sought.

Anyone who is the victim of a crime or witnesses a crime in progress should call 911 immediately. Individuals who have information regarding crimes should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally information may be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any robbery committed in the District of Columbia.
