Time Sensitive info from March 10, 2014, BACA meeting

The March meeting minutes (from tonight) will be posted later….  Meanwhile, here is the most time sensitive information (both provided by ANC Commissioner Teri Janine Quinn):

1.  Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 11, 6:00-8:00 pm, there will be a public meeting for proposed restaurant/bar The Pub and The People at their site at 1648 N. Capitol NW (N. Capitol and R St), held by the operator of the business.  They are proposing total occupancy of 99 for interior plus outdoor seating of 125, which would be mostly on N. Capitol but partially on R St.  They don’t yet have a DDOT permit for outside space, so architecturally renderings may change.  They are seeking hours of Sun-Thurs to 2:00 am and Fri-Sat to 3:00 am with live entertainment starting at 6:00 pm all days.

2.  Starting on March 17, there will be significant construction along Florida Ave between N. Capitol and 9th St, NW, to work on gutters, sidewalks, and pavement.  It is scheduled to last for 5 weeks with work on every day except Sunday.  There will be parking restrictions and traffic reduced to one lane at times, so expect traffic congestion.

Otherwise, there were reminders to please vote in the upcoming elections, which are on April 1, with early voting starting on March 17.  See the DC Board of Elections website for more info: http://dcboee.us/ Comm’r Quinn and Geovani stressed that it is important to have input as to who your elected officials are, and to let them know that BACA residents are active, expect to have our needs addressed, and will hold the elected officials (Council Members, ANC Commissioners, Mayor, etc) accountable through our votes.

Finally, please see Geovani’s prior post about upcoming BACA events and contact a BACA officer if you want to volunteer.  https://batesareacivicassociation.org/2014/03/09/baca-2014-calender-of-events/  We need volunteers to help organize a neighborhood beautification day (clean up and planting) in mid-April, as well as the annual Flower Power Garden Walk and Reception in early June.  Also, we are currently first on the list to be awarded host responsibilities for the National Night Out for Ward 5 on August 2, which will require a lot of coordinating and effort to make it another successful event.  Thanks in advance!
