The year ahead again holds the great promise of seeing our students grow. At Mundo Verde students discover themselves, conceive of wonderful ideas, take responsibility for their own learning, gain heightened empathy and caring for others and their world, and learn to struggle and succeed with determination and perseverance.
Celebrating successes: Our students have exceeded all of our goals for academic performance and have an exemplary 95% attendance rate. Our families and staff continue to be highly engaged, standing with us as we grow: over 95% of our families re-enroll their students, and over 85% of our teachers return year after year.
Being thankful: We have successfully moved and are close to finishing the construction of our Mundo Verde Campus. We love our new home! This monumental step has been possible due to your support. We are deeply thankful to our partners, families, and staff – you have each been critical champions in our process of securing a permanent home! To see the highlights of the redevelopment of our main school building, please watch A Green Home (a short film from our friends at Meridian Hill Pictures).
Planning for 2015: We are looking forward to the construction of eight new classrooms in La Casita and the work on the outside spaces to bring our gardens and play spaces alive. Excitement is rising as our winter Expo draws near, a celebration of learning that showcases all the discoveries and accomplishments made on the first learning expeditions of the school year (My Body in PK, Corn in Kindergarten, Trash in 1st grade, Markets in 2nd grade, and The Right to Read in 3rd grade). Much lies ahead for Mundo Verde and our students!
In the words of one of our students, who is leading the way in our rising class as our school grows through 5th grade:
Mundo Verde is a different kind of school. We learn about composting, the role of markets, geology and earthquakes, the importance of water in the world, the right to read… Because Mundo Verde is my school, if someone was to ask me a question I can answer with knowledge and like an expert. – 3rd grade student
As we turn the corner on 2014, a very gracious thank you for helping make Mundo Verde a ‘different kind of school’ for all our students!
Mil Gracias and Feliz Año Nuevo,

Kristin Scotchmer & the Mundo Verde crew
