Metro Riders’ Advisory Council seeking new members

Good Morning All:
I’m passing along the following notice from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) that WMATA is seeking applications from residents who are interested in serving on the Metro Advisory Board.  As the notice indicates, the board has 6 seats reserved for D.C. residents plus 2 at-large seats and one chair (all three of which I assume could be D.C. residents).  If you think you might be interested in helping to guide Metrorail, Metrobus and Metroaccess policy, you have until next Monday, November 9th, to apply either on line or at one of the Metro sales offices.
Good luck to all who apply.

Metro Riders’ Advisory Council seeking new members

Metro’s Riders’ Advisory Council is seeking candidates to fill available positions on the volunteer council.  Positions are available for residents in the District of Columbia, Arlington County, Fairfax County and Prince George’s County.

The 21-member council is made up of six individuals each from Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, two at-large members and the Chairman of Metro’s Accessibility Advisory Committee. The Council advises the agency’s Board of Directors on issues affecting Metrobus, Metrorail and MetroAccess service. It was created in December 2005 to improve interaction with riders and seeks input on operational and budgetary issues.
Individuals on the Riders’ Advisory Council represent a cross-section of Metro’s riders from around the region. The Council includes people with different riding patterns, people who use Metrobus, Metrorail and MetroAccess, transit-dependent people, people with disabilities, people who travel short distances and others who travel long distances.

Members of the Riders’ Advisory Council shall serve three year terms and are required to regularly attend and participate in scheduled meetings.

Anyone interested in applying should complete the online form. Applications are also available at Metro sales offices at Metro Center Station, Anacostia Station, Pentagon Transit Center and Metro Headquarters (600 Fifth St NW).

Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2015. Metro’s Board of Directors will appoint the final candidates at its December meeting.

Metro employees, contractors or elected officials are not eligible to apply. All positions are unpaid.

More information about the Council can be found here.

News release issued at 3:22 pm, October 30, 2015.
