The District has kicked off its latest branded month, June Housing Bloom, with offers to buy and redevelop more than two dozen properties.

The D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development is offering 25 of its properties for sale. The lots are in Truxton Circle, Brightwood, Congress Heights, Bellevue and Washington Heights, and provide varying opportunities for affordable, mixed-income, and mixed-use development.

In all cases, the winning developer will be expected to complete construction within 24 months of closing. Submission deadlines are Sept. 1.

  • Florida and Q streets NW in Truxton Circle: DHCD has eight lots on the market — seven vacant and one improved. The agency is seeking a mixed-income project for the site, located less than a mile from two Metrorail stations. And preference will be given to proposed projects that include a retail component.  A Streetsense study, commissioned by the District, found the North Capitol Street trade area to have a “pent-up demand for retail,” particularly neighborhood-serving goods and services like dry cleaners, florists, salons, specialty food stores and laundromats.
