Ward 5 ANC Redistricting

On June 30th, 2011, I attended a meeting held by Council Member Harry Thomas to organize a committee that will lead the efforts for the redistricting of the ANC boundaries in the 5th Ward. Community members are encouraged to join this task force.  This task force is essential in the design of electing ANC representations and division of single member districts.

Below is an update from CM Thomas’ office. If you wish to join the committee, you may contact our ANC, Bradley Thomas at bradley.thomas@anc.dc.gov or CM Thomas’ Chief of Staff, Awyana Chase at AChase@DCCOUNCIL.US.

 Let the boundary discussions begin.

Subject: Where We Are

Councilmember Thomas held 2 information sessions on the process of the
Ward 5 Redistricting Task Force. The first was held on Thursday, June

23, 2011 and the second was held on Thursday, June 30, 2011. During
both meetings the memo from the Subcommittee on Redistricting was

provided to attendees. Additionally, upon request the memo was
emailed.

Currently, Councilmember Thomas’ staff designee for redistricting matters, Ayawna C. Webster, is awaiting further information from the staff designee from the Subcommittee on Redistricting to include:

Council staffers briefing, an updated/more detailed memo, census block/census tract data and accompanying maps. After reviewing the information and making appointments, Councilmember Thomas will schedule a community meeting with updates.

Of the ward residents that have requested to participate, Councilmember Thomas will make assignments to the Ward 5 Redistricting Task Force by Census Tract as stated in the information meeting on Thursday, June 30, 2011. More information will be released as this
process takes shape.

Thank you for your participation. We look to update you further.
