Bates Area Civic Association

The Florida and First St Park was closed for scheduled renovations. The contractor is in the process of securing all the city permits to begin demolition and reconstruction. The attached meeting announcement flyer contains the new proposed composition of the park.

 There is an important community meeting scheduled to be held on

 The Parks and Recreation Team will be present to discuss the new design and listen to community input. In addition to Parks and Recreations, the following are invited:

□       Hanover Civic Association
□       Bloomingdale Civic Association
□       Eckington Civic Association
□       5C ANC
□       Metropolitan Police
□       Council Member Thomas’ Office
□       Mayor’s Liaison

 We will discuss critical issues concerning the park including:

□       Better fencing
□       Security and safety
□       Lighting
□       Maintenance

We will also discuss the creation of the Friends of The Park. This will be created under the legal Corporate Charter of the Bates Area Civic Association. This group will be essential in:

□       Working with DPR on park programs and events
□       Seeking funding from private and city sources to host events at the park
□       Coordinating maintenance issues with DPR
□       Working with MPD on safety concerns at the park
