Recall this Washington Business Journal post about potential future locations for a new US Department of Labor headquarters site — one of which is a site bounded by North Capitol Street NE, P Street NE and New York Avenue NE — property owned by Douglas Development.
See today’s Washington Business Journal article — perhaps the Poplar Point site might beat out the North Capitol Street NE site?
Get your popcorn ready.
D.C.-based Redbrick LMD has filed plans for a massive mixed-use development at Poplar Point— one whose dimensions may be an exact fit for a future home for the U.S. Department of Labor.
In a plan filed with the D.C. Zoning Commission this week, Redbrick, working with HOK Canal House, Bohler D.C. and Wells + Associates, proposes building about 700 residential units, 45,300 square feet of retail and 1,617,000 square feet of office on an undeveloped site at Howard Road SE, Interstate 295 and South Capitol Street SE.
The Poplar Point location was described by the General Services Administration last month when it mentioned three potential sites for Labor’s new headquarters. Others under consideration include parcels in NoMa and the Capitol Riverfront. The GSA said it needs 1.4 million square feet of space to house the agency.
