oh, we can all forget about the North Cap NE, P St NE & NY Av NE site as a potential location for a new US Dept of Labor HQ

Who recalls this 12-16-2017 Washington Business Journal article that was posted here at the Bates blog?

There was discussion that the US Department of Labor might get relocated to a  new construction building on a site bounded by North Capitol Street NE, P Street NE and New York Avenue NE (among a total of three possible sites).

Well, it appears that’s off the table.

Here is an update today — click on the link to read the entire WBJ post:

GSA pulls the plug on another proposed building swap

The General Services Administration has decided to scrap its plans to swap the Department of Labor’s headquarters just north of the National Mall after narrowing its search for a new D.C. home down to a trio of locations.

The GSA said it is canceling the solicitation after determining “the exchange mechanism was not the optimal means to maximize the government’s return” on Labor’s existing headquarters at 200 Constitution Ave. NW. It based the decision on responses it received from prospective bidders, as well as on its experience with other such property exchanges across the country.

The GSA has canceled the environmental studies it kicked off for the sites being considered for the new agency headquarters. Those three sites included NoMa, the near Nationals Park and Poplar Point.
