Good morning,
5D is currently investigating the following shootings that took place on Sunday, June 3, 2018:
1. 3500 block of 10th St., NE at 12:33 a.m. The victim was approached by two suspects who demanded the victim’s property at gunpoint. After obtaining the victim’s property, one of the suspects shot the victim in the leg and arm. The victim transported themselves to an area hospital for treatment.
2. 1400 block of W St., NE at 1:44 a.m. The victim was approached by the suspect who demanded the victim’s property at gunpoint. When the victim ran, the suspect shot the victim in the lower extremities. The victim transported themselves to an area hospital for treatment.
3. Unit block of Q St., NW at 2:44 a.m. The victim was walking in the block when he was approached by two suspects. The suspects began to shoot at the victim, striking the victim in the leg. The victim transported themselves to an area hospital for treatment.

Two shootings in two successive weekends within a block of an area that had multiple shootings last summer including one where ALOT of bullets were exchanged and multiple people were shot at the 2nd NW CoOp…wondering how long until there is some type of actual police presence besides a camera/spotlight on the corner of 1st and Q?
We are all acutely aware that this area is a problem but seriously asking both you and CM McDuffie what it will take for a fixed post or even more. Remember the last shooting was in broad daylight and a fairly large and well used playground is one block away.

We completely understand your frustration and will take measures to increase police presences in this area. In reference to the shooting last night that was reported to occur in the unit block of Q St NW. The victim drove to the hospital where it was reported that the shooting occurred in the unit block of Q Street NW. During an investigation no sounds of gunshots were detected from Shotspotter nor reported by citizens. During a canvass of the area no shell casing were located in that block. The District also had a unit working in the 100 block of Q Street NW, and this unit did not hear any gunshots at that location. The Fifth District Detectives office has this case under investigation to confirm the exact location of the incident. The Leadership in PSA 501 will be available at tomorrow’s meeting to discuss any new police initiatives for this area.
