Subject: RE: [MPD-5D] Marijuana Pop Party

Good afternoon Fifth District Community,

I would like to address some sentiments I have received from the community in regards to these marijuana pop-up events.   The events have contributed to violent crime in the Fifth District.   This is inevitable considering the value of the products being sold and the amount of currency being exchanged.   We have had several reported armed robberies of participants coming from these events as well as other acts of violence here in the Fifth District.  We have also learned of other violent acts associated with these pop-ups that have gone unreported.  The potential for future violence is there,  therefore I feel it is important to address these pop-ups for the safety of all residents of the Fifth District.

I would also like to express my appreciation to the United States Attorney’s Office for their support and prosecution of the offenders recently  arrested at the Marijuana Pop-Up Parties in the Fifth District.   The events were investigated by the Fifth District Crime Suppression Team who worked closely with the United States Attorney’s Office to obtain search warrants and build cases suitable for prosecution.  The locations and arrests are as follows:

2810 Channing Street, NE

(12 arrests; all papered and pending in the court system)

2260 25th Place, NE

(30 arrests;  all papered and pending in the court system)

1712 3rd Street, NW

(11 arrests; currently under review by the United States Attorney’s Office.  I am confident these cases will be papered as well)

5th District Community,

Last evening the 5th District Crime Suppression Team executed a D.C. Superior Court Search Warrant in the 1700 block of 3rd Street NW in reference to a “marijuana pop up party”.  Crime Suppression Team members made ten arrest and recovered large amounts of various illegal forms of marijuana and marijuana edibles.  Great job Crime Suppression Team for shutting down another illegal “marijuana pop up party”!!!!

  1. Of the 53 total arrests I count in your above post, were most made as a result of the violent crime of armed robbery that you described? For the record your work is laudable and I personally value the safety that results from it (thank you for your service) but I can’t help but surmise that these 53 arrests resulted from houses full of people smoking marijuana instead of 53 people perpetrating violent crimes such as armed robbery. Could you provide us 5th district residents some clarity on that subject?
