The DC Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) voted for the historic landmark nomination for 71 O Street NW — the Washington Animal Rescue League building. The property is currently owned and occupied by So Others Might Eat (S.O.M.E.), which opposed the landmark nomination.
The DC Historic Preservation Office (HPO) staff report supported landmarking the entire site — the building facing the street plus an addition and building in the rear. But at the end of the hearing, only the building that faces the street was landmarked.
