Greetings DC Water Community Stakeholders:

The purpose of this message is to inform you of DC Water construction activity that will soon begin in your area. As part of its Capital Improvement Program, the Authority will be replacing large diameter valves at various locations throughout the city. These efforts will improve water quality and system reliability, increase water pressure in some areas, and maintain adequate flows throughout the system.

The scope of work will include the replacement of 42-inch and 48 inch valves and a portion of the pipeline at N Street, NW and New Jersey Avenue, NW; and replacement of a 30-inch valve and a portion of pipeline at 3rd Street, NE and Evarts Street, NE. More specific details are located on the attached project information sheet.

The estimated start date of construction for N Street and New Jersey Avenue is March 2016 with an estimated completion date is May 2016. The estimated state date of construction for 3rd Street and Evarts Street is March 2016 with an estimated completion date is June 2016.

The normal work hours will be from 7am to 7pm, Monday through Friday. However, as construction continues there may be portions of work that result in night activities due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, but every attempt will be made to keep these night activities at a minimum.

As part of our regular outreach program, this e-mail message and project information sheet are being shared with your 5E ANC, Ward 5 representatives in the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations, Ward 5 Councilmember McDuffie and members of key staff. The project information sheet will be also posted to relevant list serves as well as social media. In addition, hand delivery of the attached information has been provided to affected property owners. Lastly, the project information has been posted to our website at and will be updated regularly.

Finally, we are available to provide you with a presentation to discuss the short-term construction impacts and long-term benefits, as well as address any concerns you may have. If interested in a presentation at one of your upcoming monthly meetings, please contact our office and we will be happy to accommodate you.
